Congratulations to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem’s 2019-2020 Youth of the Year, Angelis Segura!
Angelis has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem since the age of five years old. Starting out as a Kids Club (licensed program) member, Angelis has grown as an individual. She demonstrates an endless amount of leadership every day. Angelis has been involved in all kinds of programs such as dance, basketball, theater, Torch club, Keystone, cooking, Smart Girls, and much more. She describes the club as her second home where she spends most of her time. As an addition to being a part-time employee and member, Angelis is also the President of our leadership program, Keystone Club. Angelis is the ideal club member; she displays a high academic performance, while also being heavily involved with community service and sports. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem is not only proud to call Angelis our 2019-2020 Youth of the Year, she is also considered our Youth of the DECADE!
About Youth of the Year
Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional young person from a Boys & Girls Club rises to the role of National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year serves as both an exemplary ambassador for Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of our nation’s young people.
The journey to being named National Youth of the Year begins locally and progresses to state, regional and national levels, with an additional military phase for members of BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations.
